Prompt Cards – Inspiration for the writer

Prompt cards are small bits of information or imagery that inspire the writer to write. Preparation can take as long as you want it to, but the more effort you put into these pieces, the more you tend to take them serious.

What you need:

3X5 or 5X7 index cards
pen or pencil
A dry bowl, empty coffee can or some other container to place cards in.

Cut the index cards in half or quarters, whichever your prefer.
On each piece write a word, phrase or create a simple image. Keep it simple and go down the alphabet. ‘A’ is for…

When you’re finished place them all in the container, mix them up and choose one every time you need a prompt.

Give yourself up to 24 hours to write the piece based upon the card.

Good luck.
